CYM vs Haddington - Friendship Cup
A recent tradition in CYM is to hold an annual match with our Scottish friends in Haddington RFC for the much sought after Friendship Cup. The fixture coincides with the yearly 6 Nations clash between Ireland and Scotland. So every second year we welcome the Scots to Terenure, and in between - they return the hospitality in welcoming us to Edinburgh. So this February it was the Terenure boys chance to head off on a long weekend tour! The Friendship Cup clash on Friday, acting as a lovely warm up to the big game on Saturday between Ireland and Scotland at Murrayfield.
Haddington RFC vs CYM
Neilson Park, Millwynd Haddington, East Lothian
February 3rd, 2017
This annual clash is synonymous for bringing the senior members of both clubs out of retirement for a one off showcase of skills, flair, and a test of who can survive the longest. Of course the newest members of CY were getting their first taste this year of is always a brilliant contest. It is the epitome of all that is good about rugby - a bruising, hell for leather encounter for the 80 minutes on the pitch followed up by hugs, handshakes and drinks after the final whistle and into the night.
In terms of the match itself, we had sent over a pitch-side reporter from Dublin to keep us up to date with all the goings on. However, due to a poor case of jetlag... the most we gathered from the encounter was it finished in the favour of the Scots. Here's hoping that Rory Best and the boys do the business on Saturday afternoon!
Well done Haddington! See you all this time next year n Dublin
